Instructions for Listservs


The listserv can be a valuable communications mechanism, allowing us to share ideas, activities, speakers, success stories etc. The listserv was designed with a full-featured web interface as well, which allows subscribers to manage their subscription settings (e.g. select digest mode, or RSS feed), access the list archives, etc.

Here are instructions on how to change your subscription settings as well as access list archive  (i.e. once-a-day digest version, index version, etc.) However, the email instructions listed below provide a simple way to perform basic commands with the listserv without logging in to the web.

PLEASE NOTE: XXXX-XXXX is the name of your particular list, which may be obtained from Madeline Palmer at mpalmer@maa.org.


TO POST A MESSAGE TO THE LIST:

To post a message to the list, send an email to xxxx-xxxx@lists.maa.org. *Note*  - you must be subscribed to the list in order to post messages.


TO SUBSCRIBE:

Send an email to sympa@lists.maa.org, with the command:

SUBSCRIBE xxxx-xxxx MAAmembernumber firstname lastname

either in the subject line or as a single line in the body of the email. You can find your MAA member number on any MAA journal label. Please note that, before being added to the list, your SIGMAA membership status will be verified.


 TO UNSUBSCRIBE:

Send an email to sympa@lists.maa.org, with the single command:

SIGNOFF xxxx-xxxx

in either the subject line or in a single line in the body of the email.


TO LEARN GENERAL USER COMMANDS for the listserv:

Send an email to sympa@lists.maa.org, with no subject line and with the single command:

HELP

in either the subject line or in a single line in the body of the email.
