Dear Math Circle Leaders,
We need your help.
Each year since 2002, the Math Department at Texas A&M has offered
our Summer Educational Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math) for gifted students
entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades. It was a two-week commuter program
predominantly for local students with a few out
of town students who came with a parent who stayed for the two weeks.
This year (for obvious reasons) the program will not be an in-person
commuter program. Rather, we will be running it as an online program via
Zoom. Since it is online, we no longer need to restrict enrollment to
local students. So it is open to students around
the country.
In the past, we have not accepted students who have previously done the
program, because of space limitiations and we repeat activities. This
year we are opening it up for returning students as long as they have
not yet started high school.
So this year we will be accepting:
New Students who are entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2020
with a small number of younger students who are significantly advanced
in their Math and able to sit at a computer for an hour and 15 minute
sessions.
Returning students who are entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2020.
The program runs Mon-Fri, July 13-24, at 1:00-5:00. We will have an awards ceremony on Fri July 24.
Please feel free to advertise the program to your Math Circle students. The website is
http://see-math.math.tamu.edu/2020/
This site has information about the program, an Application Form and a
place for a teacher to fill out a Recommendation Form. As their Math
Circle leader, you can fill out the Recommendation Form. I have also
attached an advertising flyer.
We also could use instructors who would like to teach an online Math
Circle topic. We will work with you to find a topic that will lend
itself to an online environment. If you are willing to help, or just
want to talk about it, please contact either or both
of us:

Please include a phone number and good times to call.
As part of the program, students learn to make computer animations using
the Maple Computer Algebra System. You can see previous results in the
archive at
http://see-math.math.tamu.edu/
Previously, Maple was done on A&M University computers. This year,
Maplesoft has agreed to give each student a free copy of the Maple for
two months surrounding the dates of SEE-Math. After that there will be a
discount price to purchase Maple. New students
will start from scratch on Maple. Returning students will be able to
make more sophisticated anomations. All students will get to use Maple
in some other activities.
Thanks for your help.
