Annual Business Meeting Minutes

• Welcome New Officers
  • Natasha Speer, Coordinator-Elect and Stacy Brown, Organizational Director
• Collegiate Mathematics Education Research Journal
  • Progress Report: Chris Rasmussen, Karen Marrongelle, and Pat Thompson met with members of the MAA Publications Study Group during Mathfest 2008 and received numerous suggestions about the structure of the journal. Karen and Chris will present the most recent proposal to the MAA Committee on Publications at the 2009 Joint Mathematics Meetings.
• Update on Bylaws and Charter changes
  • Changes to the Bylaws and Charter were ratified by the SIGMAA on RUME membership at the Conference on RUME in February 2008. The changes were forwarded to the MAA for approval. The MAA asked us to consider folding the Bylaws into the Charter, so that we have one governing document, as the other SIGMAAs do.
• Treasurer’s Report
  • SIGMAA on RUME started 2008 with a carry-over balance of $24,286 from fiscal year 2007. Through the third quarter of 2008, SIGMAA on RUME received $2,660 in dues payments. Together, these two sources of revenue totaled $26,946. Expenses included $1714 for officer travel, $2,526 for travel support and honoraria for annual conference plenary speakers, $2,165 for travel support for invited Joint Meetings and Math Fest speakers, $200 for the annual conference Best Paper Award, $30 for computer support, $204 for printing, copying, and postage, and $58 in miscellaneous expenses. For fiscal year 2009, assuming that the fourth quarter report shows year-end revenue of $6,000, the organization will start fiscal year 2009 with a carry-over balance of $23,389.
