Title: Advancing Mathematical Activity: A Practice-Oriented View of Advanced Mathematical Thinking Abstract:The purpose of this talk is to contribute to thedialogue about the notion of advanced mathematicalthinking by offering an alternative characterizationfor this idea, namely advancing mathematical activity.The term advancing (versus advanced) is used toemphasize the progression and evolution of students'reasoning in relation to their previous activity.Also, the term activity is used, rather than thinking.This shift in language reflects a characterization ofmathematical thinking as acts of participation in avariety of different socially or culturally situatedmathematical practices. | Saturday morning, January 10th (Follow link for Schedule) |
