The American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the associated AERA SIG/RME - The purpose of the American Educational Research Association's Special Interest Group: Research in Mathematics Education (AERA SIG/RME) is to promote and to disseminate research, development, and evaluative efforts in mathematics education, and to promote and encourage scholarly and productive exchanges among members of all the constituencies that affect, or are affected by, research on the learning and teaching of mathematics.

The Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) advocates for the improvement of mathematics teacher education, from college preparation through ongoing professional learning. The AMTE site includes a list of doctoral programs in mathematics education (Ed.D. and Ph.D.) in the U.S.

AMATYC - The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) is the only organization exclusively devoted to providing a national forum for the improvement of the instruction of the mathematics in the first two years of college.

ICME - The members of the International Commission on Mathematics Instruction (ICME) are neither individuals nor organizations, agencies, etc., but countries.   A major event in the life of the international mathematics education community is formed by the quadrennial International Congress on Mathematical Education, ICME, held under the auspices of ICMI. In addition to the rather formal Congress Proceedings, a wide variety of ICME-related publications on specific themes and topics normally appear as well, as a result of a given ICME.

MAA - The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is the world's largest organization devoted to the interests of collegiate mathematics.  A major  emphasis of the MAA is the teaching of mathematics at the collegiate level, but anyone who is interested in mathematics is welcome to join.

NCTM - The mission of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is to provide the vision and leadership necessary to ensure a mathematics education of the highest quality for all students. Also at the NCTM site is the NCTM Research Advisory Committee's Math. Ed. page. It has links to: Journals, Associations, Funding Agencies, Research and Development Centers, Electronic Forums and Resources, Other Organizations, Research Summaries and Compilations.

PME - The major goals of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME) are (1)
to promote international contacts and the exchange of scientific information in the psychology of mathematics education; (2) to promote and stimulate interdisciplinary research in the aforesaid area, with the cooperation of psychologists, mathematicians and teachers; and (3) to further a deeper insight into the psychological aspects of teaching and learning mathematics and the implications thereof.  Membership in the North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME-NA) is open to people involved in active research consistent with these aims or to those professionally interested in the results of such research.

SIGMAA on RUME - The purpose of the Special Interest Group of the MAA on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education (SIGMAA on RUME) is to foster research on learning and teaching undergraduate mathematics and to provide a support network for those who participate in this area of research.

ZDM -- Zentralblatt für Didaktik der Mathematik -- International Reviews on Mathematical Education. ZDM (ISSN 0044-4103) is an information service and reference tool in mathematics education and computer science education from pre-school level to teacher training and adult education, published bimonthly. It contains both an articles section and a documentation section.
