Web Site URL: http://www.mste.uiuc.edu/arume/index1.htm
During the past year, the initial committee members (Bonn, Dogan, Hauk, and Hendrix) brainstormed ideas for the building of an ARUME website. Ideas included:
After the initial brainstorming, a template for the ARUME website has been established at the URL sited above. The site is housed currently on the server for the Office of Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education at the University of Illinois. There is a direct link from that office's website to the ARUME site a well.
The initial website has a "frame-like" structure that employs a slide menu. The purple slide menu on the left side of the screen contains the major areas of the website. As you click on any one of the purple bars in the slide menu, a sub-menu immediately drops down to display a table of contents. "Clicking" on any one of the items will take you to the respective web page for that topic.
At the summer meetings, two more committee members were added to ARUME and expressed interest in participating in the website committee: Larry Husch and Aaron Montgomery.
Little has been done during the fall semester of 1999 to advance the current ARUME website. I, as chairperson, take responsibility for the lack of activity. Health considerations have necessitated me cutting back on activity. For the same reason, I will be \unable to be with you all at the Washington Joint meetings and ARUME sessions next week.
The ARUME website can become one of the largest means by which our organization become visible in the academic community. I feel that, to facilitate that growth, it will best serve the organization if I can transfer committee leadership, or at least co-chair, to one of the other committee members, who has the time to devote to this important task. It will be vital to coordinate with other committees and help them to post their information on the website. One long-range goal should be that the organization purchases its own server to house the website, especially if we begin to develop large searchable databases of literature related to our field. Until that time, the website is welcome to remain housed at the Office for MSTE and we can secure FTP privileges for those who have web documents to upload. Please visit the website, and give us ideas for how you would like to see ARUME's website grow in purpose and utility. You may email the committee at: ARUMEweb@pingry.edu.uiuc.edu.
Respectfully submitted,
Tim Hendrix (hendrix@uiuc.edu)
