As part of its on-going activities to foster research in undergraduate mathematics education and the dissemination of such research, the Special Interest Group of the Mathematical Association of America on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education (SIGMAA on RUME) presents its eleventh Conference on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education.

This conference is a forum for researchers in collegiate mathematics education and includes the following themes: results of current research, contemporary theoretical perspectives and research paradigms, and innovative methodologies and analytical approaches as they pertain to the study of undergraduate mathematics. The program will include plenary addresses, contributed paper sessions, and preliminary paper sessions.

Sessions will begin at 7:00 pm, February 28, 2008, and continue through to noon on Sunday, March 2, 2008. The opening plenary will take place on Thursday evening followed by a reception. Conference registration includes all meals except dinner on Saturday.

Panel on Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education

Panelists will discuss the state of doctoral programs in mathematics education in the United States drawing on results and discussions from the national conference on Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education: Progress in the Past Decade.

Conference Proceedings and Award for Best Paper 

Authors of all accepted proposals are expected to submit a previously unpublished paper for an electronic proceedings. Papers are due two weeks after the conference (March 17, 2008) to give authors a chance to incorporate comments and suggestions from their presentation. Authors will have the option of writing a short (5-8 page) paper or a long (10-20 page) paper.

One long paper will be selected as the Winner of the Best Paper Award for the 2008 Conference on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education. This award carries with it a prize of $200. One additional paper will be awarded Honorable Mention Best Paper Award for the 2008 Conference on Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education.

In addition, less experienced researchers who write a long paper can also opt to have their paper considered for selection of pre-journal submission review by more experienced researchers. A small number of promising papers will be assigned reviewers. This is a great opportunity for less experienced researchers to increase the likelihood of publication in a top journal.

The conference hotel is the Doubletree Hotel San Diego - Mission Valley, California. The room rate is $159 per night for single or double occupancy, plus tax. Travel

• Regular flights are available to and from the San Diego International Airport (Lindberg Field), located in the center of San Diego. The DoubleTree Hotel is located approximately 8 miles from the airport.
• Call the hotel directly at (619) 297-5466 upon arrival for a complimentary shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Shuttle operates from 6am – 10pm. Return shuttle to the airport is $5.
• Taxi from the airport to the hotel is approximately $25 one way
